Introduction to
Accounting – This lesson introduces accounting to students as a communication
tool. Students learn that accounting is the language of business and who are the
people listening.
The objectives
of the lesson:
With completion of this lesson the student should be able to:
- Describe the purpose of accounting
- Describe the accounting process
- Define three types of business ownership structures
- Classify different types of business by activities
The initial
lecture should take about 30 minutes with an assignment and exam following the
next two days.
b. Describe what you will have for the
delivery. A syllabus? an agenda? welcome email? course orientation file?
podcast? a course or training website?
The lesson is presented
on a special blog where links provide student with online resources, a MP3
presentation, access to tests and course assessment. A link is provided to
easily email the instructor with any questions.
c. Describe your audience. Whom will you
deliver it to? What are the learner characteristics?
This lesson is
geared to the high school student that may be considering accounting as a major
or adult student looking to reenter the workforce or change their vocation. Technical
literacy many vary among student with some being very confident in a virtual
environment others being less comfortable.
It also can be used as a beginning module for a larger accounting
course.
d. When do you plan to deliver your
lesson/training? What will be the duration of the activity?
This trainings
can be used as a stand-alone but can also be used as a beginning module for a
larger accounting course. The initial lecture should take about 30 minutes with
an assignment and exam following the next two days.
2. Good Start (a minimum of 50%
complete)
Describe how you will ensure a
"Good Start" and post material for “Good Start,” for example, a
welcome message, a “Getting Start” file, a file for course orientation, and
introduction.
I plan to start
the program with a welcome message that will serve as an introduction to the
course containing some information some preliminary action that the students
need to perform. It may look something like this:
Hi all, my name
is Bill Norris and welcome to Introduction
to Accounting. Whether you are considering a career in accounting or
business, or simply want to comprehend your individual finances and dealings
with businesses, this is a good place to start. Introduction to Accounting presents accounting as the language of
business. It describes how business operations communicates and who is
listening. The learner environment comprises online lesson blog, on which lesson
contents consists of a multimedia lecture, links to online resources, and an
online quiz.
Students will
be required to:
- Access the Internet
- Share an email address with the instructor
- Attached documents to emails
- Possess an office suite of applications compatible with MS Office. (compatible software can be downloaded for free such as Open Office.
- Download a copy of Adobe Reader
This lesson is asynchronous
meaning that students can access the lesson at any time during the day or
night. Students will be required to submit assignment and complete the quiz by
a certain deadline.
